Bill Withers is my favorite singer of all time. He has an ability to write pictures.¬¨‚Ć But here’s how he does it:¬¨‚Ć He picks an instance in time and paints that picture.¬¨‚Ć “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone”.¬¨‚Ć That’s it!¬¨‚Ć He takes that moment and writes a song about how he FEELS when a woman leaves.¬¨‚Ć Maybe she just went to the store, Bill describes it in lurid detail with metaphors.¬¨‚Ć His delivery is insane too.¬¨‚Ć Once that song begins, you’re already captured in his web; his mood…he sets the tone for the listener.¬¨‚Ć To be able to do that is something I still aspire to do but he remains one of my biggest influences as a performer.
