Awww man!¬¨‚Ć Who remembers Tim Dog?¬¨‚Ć If you’re from the East Coast (and most likely the West for different reasons), you’d remember Tim Dog from the Bronx who repped the East Coast during the rise of NWA, MC Eiht, DJ Quik and others from Compton, CA.¬¨‚Ć Why? ‘Cause he felt the need to single-handedly disrespect the popular city at the time with his song “Fuck Compton”.
At the time, people weren’t sure how hardcore NWA were but didn’t wanna test them.¬¨‚Ć Tim Dog?¬¨‚Ć Nah…he stepped to the plate to rep the East by dissing each member.¬¨‚Ć In fact, he didn’t like the Cali rappers except Ice-T.¬¨‚Ć “I’ll crush Ice Cube, I’m cool with Ice-T / But NWA ain’t shit to me”.¬¨‚Ć His lyrics were really simple at the time but compared to today’s rappers, playing “Fuck Compton” right now would feel like a breath of fresh air lyrically. Ha!
Even Snoop Doggy Dogg at the time dissed back at Tim Dog, born Timothy Blair, in “Fuck Wit Dre Day” with “Your bark was loud but your bite wasn’t vicious / And them rhymes you were kickin’ are quite bootylicious”.¬¨‚Ć Ahh…the good old days!¬¨‚Ć Dogg vs. Dog.¬¨‚Ć The song actually probably not only pushed the East vs. West rivalry more but made the East step their game up lyrically to back up what Tim was saying.¬¨‚Ć Unfortunately today, the East could use a Tim Dog in the confidence department but unfortunately, Tim Dog has died.
Suffering from a diabetes-related seizure, the dog died yesterday at the young age of 46.¬¨‚Ć Definitely a sad ending to a tragic life that as recently as 2011 pled guilty for mackin’ a woman out of $32Gs.¬¨‚Ć The whole story was covered by Dateline NBC.¬¨‚Ć Check for some of his songs but especially the album, Penicillin on Wax.¬¨‚Ć It’s one of the funniest albums I’ve ever heard.¬¨‚Ć Rest in peace, Dog!
