iOS 7? Sure…but WTF Apple?

Posted by The Zodiac | Other News | Wednesday 18 September 2013 6:43 pm

I’ve always loved my iPhone even before I got it.¬¨‚Ć I had the iPod Touch and knew that Apple’s iPhone would resemble it and I waited until my Blackberry upgrade got ridiculous in pricing before jumping ship to an iPhone.¬¨‚Ć ios 7 - WTF Apple? Get it together!Since then, everything has been smooth.¬¨‚Ć It does what I want it to do:¬¨‚Ć Email, make phone calls, connect to my movies from home, update my calendars across Google accounts, talk-to-text, etc.¬¨‚Ć It even helped me write my book as I spoke to it while driving (yeah, yeah).

Well, now it’s time to update to iOS 7, the latest operating system for the iPhone.¬¨‚Ć Granted, I’ve had iOS7 for the past month and a half due to early betas and downloading.¬¨‚Ć So, it’s no big deal to get the official Alpha version today like everyone else.¬¨‚Ć I knew there’d be a rush so I wasn’t in a hurry but before running night errands, I wanted to do what I always did, download iTunes and then update my iPad and iPhone… And then it happened.¬¨‚Ć Something Steve Jobs would NEVER have allowed….a stupid error.¬¨‚Ć A simple one, really.¬¨‚Ć But dumb.

After updating to iTunes 11.0.5, I tried to update my iPad to the new iOS 7 and instead receive this error:¬¨‚Ć “A new iPad software version (7.0) is available, but requires iTunes 11.0.5. Would you like to download iTunes 11.0.5 now?”¬¨‚Ć Wait…but I ALREADY AM RUNNING 11.0.5.¬¨‚Ć So, what’s the deal?¬¨‚Ć I try again and it says the same thing. So, I take it to the internet and see others are having the same problem.

Is it because I’m on a Mac?¬¨‚Ć Is it because I’m running Lion and not Mountain Lion?¬¨‚Ć What the fuck, Apple?!

TWITTER REACTIONS TO IOS 7

Twitter is expressing the same problems I am:

SOLUTION

So, then I look around and people online are saying to update to iTunes 11.1.¬¨‚Ć Ok, I wish the update would’ve said that but maybe it’s a glitch.¬¨‚Ć No…You visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and it only shows 11.0.5. (Since I’ve been typing this, it FINALLY updated to 11.1).

So, with the update to 11.1 after hours of complaints, let’s see if this works. Apple, get your shit together. Steve is probably going to put a virus in all of your asses for something this big to have such a fail. I hope you can pull your asses back in gear ’cause if Siri doesn’t work, then it’s game over! Hope you don’t have to update her to Siri. 2.3.1 or something.

By the way, iOS 7 is nothing ground-breaking. It just looks different and has a few new features but it’s not innovative by any stretch of the imagination. I’m not one looking for a whole lot of bells and whistles so I wasn’t disappointed. But if you’re looking to connect to the Mars space rover using your phone and make it dance to “Single Ladies”, then you’re out of luck.

Erykah Badu Upset About NSFW Video Release

Posted by The Zodiac | Blog,Other News | Wednesday 6 June 2012 4:32 pm

Well, it looks like Erykah Badu is pissed off at The Flaming Lips’ pre-mature release of their video of the collaborative effort, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”.¬¨‚Ć Ms. Badu (@bigbellybella) laid into Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coy (@waynecoyne) via an open letter and let it be known that the artistic views of both artists differ despite all of the coochie, boobs, glitter, and goop in the video.

Want to see the NSFW version?  Click this link: http://www.thezodiac.net/archives/2662/erykah-badus-first-time-face-nudie-vid-nsfw/

ERYKAH BADU RANT:

@waynecoyne¬¨‚Ćthen… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some).
Even with Window Seat there was a method and thought process involved. I have not one need for publicity . I just love artistic dialogue . And just because an image is shocking does not make it art.
You obviously have a misconception of who I am artistically. I don’t mind that but…
By the way you are an ass.
Yu did everything wrong from the on set .
First:
You showed me a concept of beautiful tasteful imagery( by way of vid text messages) .
I trusted that. I was mistaken.
Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days.
That all spells 1 thing ,
Self Serving .
When asked what the concept
meant after u explained it , u replied ,”it doesn’t mean anything , I just want to make a great video that everyone is going to watch. ”
I understood , because as an artist we all desire that. But we don’t all do it at another artist’s expense .
I attempted to resolve this respectfully by having conversations with u after the release but that too proved to be a poor excuse for art.
From jump,
You begged me to sit in a tub of that other shit and I said naw. I refused to sit in any liquid that was not water. But Out of RESPECT for you and the artist you ‘appear’ to be, I Didn’t wanna kill your concept , wanted u to at least get it out of your head . After all, u spent your dough on studio , trip to Dallas etc.. Sooo, I invited Nayrok , my lil sis and artist, who is much more liberal ,to be subject of those other disturbing (to me ) scenes . I told u from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing. But would give your edit a chance.
You then said u would take my shots ( in clear water/ fully covered parts -seemed harmless enough) and Nayrok’s part ( which I was not present for but saw the photos and a sample scene of cornstarch dripping ) and edit them together along with cosmic, green screen images ( which no one saw) then would show me the edit. .
Instead, U disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval. (Contract breech )
That is equivalent to putting out a security camera’s images of me changing in the fitting room.
I never would have approved that tasteless, meaningless, shock motivated video .
Our art is a reflection of who we are . I have no connection to those images shot in their raw version. I was interested in seeing an amazing edit that would perhaps change or alter my thoughts . Never happened .
You also did the same thing with the song itself which displays crappy “rough “vocals by me . I let it go , perhaps iiiii was missing something, I thought.
I Should have followed my first mind back in studio when recording the vocals “your way”.
( Red flag.) It was uncomfortable.
For that I am at fault .
Consequently, brother, As a human I am disgusted with your what appears to be desperation and poor execution. And disregard for others . As a director I am unimpressed . As a sociologist I understand your type. As your fellow artist I am uninspired. As a woman I feel violated and underestimated.
Hope it works out for ya ,Wayne.
Really i could give a shit less.
Still love your live show tho.
And , you’re welcomed.
Lesson learned .
By the way I have guested in very few videos. But I have always been given the opportunity to see the edit and contribute to it when my roll is substantial. Not this time .
I guess u feel it better to apologize than ask for permission and be refused . Hey, Love u man, but your ways are not very nice .
O, And on behalf of all the artists u have manipulated or plan to manipulate, find another way .
These things have been said out of necessity.
And if you don’t like it
you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS .
O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her ass too .
Almost forgot.
Peace

Ms. Badu

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Pushed Back to March 2013 to Add 3D – Comic Vine

Posted by The Zodiac | Other News | Wednesday 23 May 2012 2:58 pm

This is stupid!  If they really did this to add some damn 3D bullshit, they lost!  I was looking forward to this flick!
-The Zodiac

This is a piece of ridiculous news. G.I. Joe: Retaliation was set to open on June 29. Despite the lackluster results of the first theatrical attempt, this movie appeared to have potential. With a cast that included Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Ray Stevonson and Adrianne Palicki among others, the set up for the story looked to give us a darker tale that could actually give the movie the edge needed to make up for the first. But now all the momentum that’s been built will be thrown to side.

Deadline Hollywood has reported that the movie will no longer open in June but will now have a March 2013 release date. The reason wasn’t the usual delay issues like needing to reshoot scenes or rework the script. Paramount has decided they want nine months to work on adding 3D to the film.

I like 3D as much as the next person. Maybe even more. But I don’t feel it’s necessary for the success of this movie. Retaliation looked to be a pure action thriller that could do well without what many still see as a gimmick. Yes 3D will add to ticket sales but there are those that will avoid seeing a movie in 3D if it means paying more. Joe fans want a good movie. We don’t need the 3D. I’m sure it’ll look good but I’d rather have the movie next month instead of nine months.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the expectations. We’ve already seen a prequel comic from IDW. There’s also the cost of marketing including the Superbowl ad which are now pretty much a waste. It’s a sad day today. COBRA just moved one step closer to winning the battle.

The Secret Meeting that Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation

Posted by The Zodiac | Other News | Wednesday 23 May 2012 2:51 pm

I can’t determine how true this article is but if you were raised on Hip-Hop in the 90’s, it wouldn’t shock me.¬¨‚Ć Only problem with it is that Gangsta rap already existed 3-5 minimum years prior to the article’s starting point.¬¨‚Ć It’s a good read regardless. – The Zodiac

Hello,

After more than 20 years, I’ve finally decided to tell the world what I witnessed in 1991, which I believe was one of the biggest turning point in popular music, and ultimately American society. I have struggled for a long time weighing the pros and cons of making this story public as I was reluctant to implicate the individuals who were present that day. So I’ve simply decided to leave out names and all the details that may risk my personal well being and that of those who were, like me, dragged into something they weren’t ready for.

Trayvon Martin gun range targets sold out online

Posted by The Zodiac | Other News | Friday 11 May 2012 4:06 pm

Trayvon Martin TargetsAn unidentified Zimmerman supporter sold gun range targets that invoke Trayvon Martin’s image.

The targets depicted a hooded figure carrying skittles and ice tea—the items Trayvon Martin was carrying the night he was shot by neighborhood watchmen George Zimmerman. The seller claims the targets sold out almost immediately.

“My main motivation was to make money off the controversy,” the unidentified seller said in an email exchange with the Orlando based station WKMG-TV.

The advertisements for the targets claim the seller “supports Zimmerman and believes he is innocent and that he shot a thug.”

He wouldn’t comment just how many of the targets he’s sold. “The response is overwhelming. I sold out in 2 days,” the seller told WKMG.

WKMG-TV

Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara thinks the targets are in poor taste. “It’s this type of hatred — that’s what this is, it’s hate-mongering — that’s going to make it more difficult to try this case,” O’Mara said. He thought the targets represented “the highest level of disgust and the lowest level of civility.”

The targets have since been taken down due to increased media scrutiny. They are no longer available for purchase.

Zodiac’s Note: Whoever this is, is a special kind of asshole.¬¨‚Ć I hope he’s wearing a hoodie with a target on his chest and gets done in by a Zimmerman wannabe.¬¨‚Ć Stand your ground, you anonymous dick fungus.

Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch dies at age 47

Posted by The Zodiac | Other News | Friday 4 May 2012 11:33 am

Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch dies at age 47.

The music world is mourning again. This time, it’s because Adam Yauch, known as Beastie Boys rapper MCA, has died.

GlobalGrind.com, music mogul Russell Simmon’s website, reports that Yauch died after a long battle with cancer. He was 47.

In 2009, Yauch announced he was being treated for a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland. He has undergone surgery and radiation therapy, and has not performed live since then. Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter, Losel.

Yauch was born an only child in Brooklyn, New York. While attending Edward R. Murrow High School, he taught himself to play the bass guitar, and formed the initial incarnation of the Beastie Boys with Michael Diamond (a.k.a. Mike D. ). They played their first show on Yauch’s 17th birthday. Yauch attended Bard College for two years before dropping out to focus on music.

The group originally featured friends John Berry and Kate Schellenbach. After Berry departed the band, he and was replaced by Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock). The group began building their reputation with a song called Cookie Puss, based around a recorded prank phone call to Carvel. The song became a sensation in New York’s underground dance scene.

Two years later, at the age of 22, the Beastie Boys, now performing as a hip hop trio, released their first album Licensed to Ill on Simmons’ Def Jam Records. By 2010, the Beastie Boys had sold 40 million records worldwide. The group has won multiple Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Yauch, a practicing Buddhist, didn’t attend because of illness, but his bandmates read a letter from him.

“I’d like to dedicate this to my brothers Adam and Mike,” he wrote. “They walked the globe with me. It’s also for anyone who has ever been touched by our band. This induction is as much ours as it is yours.”

On Twitter, fans were remembering Yauch and the music.

Wrote Marlon Wayans: “Rest on peace Adam Yauch. Beastie Boys were always the “coolest whiteboys” when I was growing up. They erased color lines the opposite way”

Wrote director Kevin Smith: “RIP Adam Yauch. You made my teenage years more fun and your art made it easier for me to do what I do. For a Beastie, you sure were a beaut.”

And actress Milla Jovovich said, “We lost one of our greatest talents today. my prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Adam Yauch. Beastie Boys for life.”
