Artist: Kool G. Rap

Kool G. Rap is one of the greatest lyricists to ever hold a mic.  If you listen to his old material from ’89, it demolishes anything on the radio 20+ years later.  So, imagine me hearing this back then.  It was like a shot into the future of what lyricism is.  His 2nd verse in “Road to the Riches” has so many rhymes inside of each bar, it’s crazy.  That, and add in the fact he’s telling a semi-story and describing the rich lifestyle in metaphors with vivid pictures.  This style became a blueprint for my rhyme style because it was a combination of what Rakim is along with the gangsta lifestyle of Ice-T.  Imagine my excitement when an album came out with a song with Kool G. Rap, Scarface, and Ice Cube! Ha!
